Privacy Notice
The Desk uses a one-time code through Supabase authentication. Public profiles show only the information a maker chooses to publish.
Who is responsible
Margaretha Joubert, trading as Secret Sugar Academy is the responsible party for personal information processed through The Cakebook. Privacy requests go to privacy@secretsugaracademy.co.za.
Information we process
- Academy sign-in email, account identifier and membership eligibility;
- maker name, business details, public contact choices, general location, services and photographs;
- submission, revision, moderation, acceptance and publication records;
- random browser identifiers used for saves and aggregate interest counts; and
- information supplied in safety, privacy or takedown correspondence.
We do not ask makers for a precise home address for their public listing. Public location stops at province, city or town and suburb.
Why we use it
We process information to authenticate members, create and publish requested profiles, operate search and saves, review authenticity and safety, prevent duplicate or abusive listings, answer requests, keep necessary records, protect users and comply with law. Depending on the activity, processing is based on consent, performance of the requested service, legitimate interests in operating a safe directory, or a legal obligation.
Who handles it
Service providers may process information for us, including Supabase for database and authentication services, Cloudinary for submitted images, Netlify for website hosting and EzyCourse for Academy accounts. Their infrastructure may process information outside South Africa. We use providers and safeguards appropriate to the service and disclose information where required by law or necessary to protect rights and safety.
Retention and security
Published information remains while a listing is active. Drafts, moderation records, terms acceptances, reports and essential audit records are kept only as long as reasonably needed for the service, disputes, safety and legal duties. We use access controls and other reasonable safeguards, but no internet service can promise absolute security.
Your choices and rights
You may ask what information we hold, request correction or deletion, object to certain processing, withdraw consent where consent is the basis, or complain. Some records may be retained where law or a legitimate safety or dispute need requires it. Contact privacy@secretsugaracademy.co.za. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa).
Browser storage
My Saves and private preview drafts use storage in your browser. Saves are device-specific unless the service later says otherwise. Clearing browser data may remove them.
Children
The public directory is intended for general audiences, but a person under 18 may not manage a maker listing without a parent or legal guardian accepting responsibility. Please do not submit a child's personal information unless you have lawful authority and it is genuinely necessary.
